VERY RARE - ORIGINAL "New York Worlds Fair 1964-1965 Corporation" Poster (Copyright 1963) for The General Cigar Hall of Magic. This venue hosted the 7th Most Popular Live Attraction at the Fair, 2 years running. The show was created by Mark Wilson, star of "The Magic Land of Allakazam."
This is a large, 30"x40" Poster. Its condition is NEAR MINT - NEW/OLD STOCK. It's been stored rolled since printed in 1963, with only sleight wearing on the edges that were on the end of the protective tube. This is a recent warehouse find. This poster comes from magician Mark Wilson's personal collection. Mark produced the live show that was performed in the Hall of Magic and picked up this poster from the General Cigar offices in 1963. Many famous magicians were influenced by this show, including David Copperfield. Mr. Copperfield saw the show many times as a young man.
The reason this poster is so rare, is because they were printed for the NY Metropolitan Transit Authority as subway and bus stop posters. Once used, the NY-MTA posters were destroyed. This poster was never sold at the Fair. That's why Mark Wilson has the only known surviving originals. This is an Extremely Rare Poster. It has been authenticated by the Curator of the Queens Museum at the Flushing Meadows grounds of the original NYWF.
The background is based on the work of Bob Peak, although the rest of the layout is done by an unknown artist. The "Copyright" notice at the bottom shows it was printed by Robert Moses' NYWF Corp. in 1963, prior to the opening of the fair. The same art was used in other ways for post cards and magazine ads. But this large printed poster was never distributed to the public, making it quite a special and unique discovery! The retro style of the family attending the fair, the Unisphere, and the "Smoke Rings" (part of the General Cigar planned attraction) all represent a bygone era, and a real treasure for any collector or fan of World's Fairs.
Please write us with any questions. We will maintain it in it's pristine "Rolled" condition and Ship it to you by USPS in a sturdy tube. Mark Wilson is currently 90 years old, and quite healthy. If you would like it autographed, please specify that when you place your order. Don't miss this opportunity to own an incredible piece of NYWF and Magic history!
Proceeds from the sale of this poster go to the preservation and maintenance of the Allakazam Archives, dedicated to the digitization of the pioneering work of Mark Wilson and Nani Darnell in the world of Magic.
This is a 56 year old poster in amazing condition! Printed with durable ink on sturdy bond paper. It's been stored away from sunlight, so if there is any aging it is only on the edges of the rolled ends, and perhaps a slight bit along the exposed back portion that was the outside part of the roll. But the printed front of the poster is in Mint or Near-Mint condition. This is a phenomenal find! And, there are no other sources that I have found for these original prints!
Get your's now, because when it's gone..IT'S GONE!

The Concept Art 32"W x22"H from the 2nd Show Proposal for the New York World's Fair, by Frank Martineau
Towards the end of the Magic Land of Allakazam, Mark Wilson sold an amazing "Film to Life" interactive live stage show that incorporated all the cutting edge magic that the Allakazam Creative team could come up with. Sadly, they discovered that the show that was sold to the General Cigar Co. for the Hall of Magic was beyond what the technology of the time could achieve! What a horrible position to be in, especially a couple of months out from the opening of the 64/65 New York World's Fair!
Mark, armed with a new show proposal, and some new concept art, went to the headquarters of General Cigar, in New York, to explain the situation and "sell" them on the new "Magic Show" production. This spectacular piece of Concept Art, seen here as the Gallery Canvas, Large 32"wide by 22" tall version, was a leading piece in that presentation! History tells us that not only did Mark save the production company's reputation, but, he and his team created one of the top 10 live attractions, ranking #7 in audience reviews for both years of the World's Fair. Thats a great achievement when competing with giants like Disney.
The process of this spectacular illusion is presented on a single 32" x 22" panel. A clear box is assembled on a flat platform, covered, hoisted by a crane, and then, in a magical "Smoke Ring", a lovely lady in a sparkling dress is produced. This art was drawn by famous magician and artist, Frank (Francis) Martineau, in 1964, for Mark Wilson. It has been told to me that Martineau was so skilled at this type of line drawing, with ink or pencil, that he rarely, if ever, made a sketch. He would visualize it and go directly into the finished product. Although it has been said that he had a rough temper, he certainly was a "fine artist".
This beautiful, Numbered Edition, Gallery Wrapped, Canvas Print represents our dedication to the true color and texture achieved by Frank Martineau. We paid close attention to the original and, on each print, have carefully, manually, added the detail of glitter to the Lady's dress, making the production effect even stronger in this Presentation art. It's not "storyboard" art. It has a much higher degree of finish. This 34" wide x 22" tall rendering was intended to be a feature piece in the presentation and help save the day. It's never been released to the public. That's why this is a wonderful opportunity to amaze your friends and family with the story of how rare and special this New York World's Fair Presentation Art piece is!
There is an incredible companion piece to this presentation art (see image below). It is an extremely RARE ORIGINAL POSTER, Real Memorabilia, in near Mint condition. I have found many elements related to this whole NYWF story. I plan on writing about that whole experience. We also have a DVD of the full show, as it was performed, along with other limited ephemera from the Fair.
Either as a stand-alone piece or side by side with the "General Cigar, The Hall of Magic" Poster, this is an excellent addition to a magical Gallery! This is a great way to bring a little Magic from the NYWF into your home! And now you can have your own Allakazam Archives Canvas Gallery Wrap, that may last much longer than the original!
Allakazam Archives Gallery Wraps are perfect for any space. Each wrap is crafted with using our premium canvas reproduction techniques and hand wrapped around a deep, hardwood stretcher bar. Hung as an ensemble or by itself, this frameless presentation gives you a versatile way to display art in your home.

Mark Wilson knew that not everyone's imagination will see the same image of a show as he does. So, circa 1959, he commissioned this beautiful concept art series for his magic show proposals. This one tells the story of the Magician and the Mummy Illusion. This particular piece was painted in Dallas, Texas, around 1959, by an artist that understood how to make magic look very theatrical! Mark included this art in his presentations to networks and sponsors, while trying to sell his ultimate dream of a Network Magic Series. Later his dream came true as "The Magic Land of Allakazam".
If you are not familiar with the effect, here's what happens. The Magician shows the mummy and places it into an empty sarcophagus. After a thematic magical conjuring presentation, the mummy transforms into a live Egyptian Princess. I especially like the dabs of water-color around the edges where the artist mixed colors and tested his brush. We carefully maintained this previously hidden part of the art.
This beautiful, Numbered Edition, Gallery Wrapped, Canvas Print represents our dedication to the true color and texture achieved by the original artist. It's not "storyboard" art. It has a much higher degree of finish. This 22"wide x 18" tall rendering was intended to be a feature piece in the presentation of this new creative concept proposal. It's never been released to the public. That's why this is a wonderful opportunity to amaze your friends and family with the story of how rare and special the Mummy Illusion piece is!
There are two more incredible pieces of water-color art that are the companions to this show's presentation. (See collection listing) One is the Chef Illusion and the other is the Toy Soldier Illusion. I have not yet found the description of the full show. I hope I will find it soon. This looks like a really fun show.
Either as a stand-alone piece or side by side with the Chef Illusion and the Toy Soldier Illusion, this is an excellent addition to a magical Gallery! So far, these three pieces are the only water-color renderings from that 1959 proposal. I've seen a small photo print of a fourth image featuring a Levitation, but I have not yet found the original art. This is a great way to bring a little Magic from Allakazam into your home! And now you can have your own Allakazam Archives Canvas Gallery Wrap that may last much longer than the original!

Mark Wilson knew that not everyone's imagination will see the same image of a show as he does. So, circa 1959, he commissioned this beautiful concept art series for his magic show proposals. This particular piece was painted in Dallas, Texas, around 1959, by an artist that understood how to make magic look very theatrical! If you are not familiar with the effect, here's what happens. The Magician shows the cooking pot to be empty, adds a series of ingredients, such as "Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice", and magically conjures up his lovely assistant. I especially like the Parisian set in the background, and the hint of the green drape-skirt behind the table. It's as if they were trying to set it up to really be performed with an empty table. Notice how the darker water-color around the edges guides your eye back into the brighter middle of the magical image. We carefully maintained even the previously hidden "unfinished" edges of the art.

If you are not familiar with the effect, here's what happens. The Magician is isolated and locked in a prison-like cabinet (on the left). Meanwhile, assistants build a "Toy Soldier" using rifles as a tripod to support a Toy Soldier head. What you don't see here is the "robe-like" cloth that wraps around the tripod. The rifles are removed and the Toy Soldier head begins to dance about. Suddenly, we discover that the Magician has vanished from his confines... but, simultaneously, the cloth robe is whisked away to reveal that the Magician is free, and inside the Toy Soldier! This illusion is a version of what is also known as the "Vampire" Illusion. I especially like the dabs of water-color around the edges where the artist mixed colors and tested his brush. We carefully maintained this previously hidden part of the art.

Wizard Castle Concept Art by Glenn Schmitz, Numbered Edition Canvas Print from The Allakazam Archives
The creative team that brought you the Magic Land of Allakazam was also working on many other "spin-off" projects. This proposal involved a Wizard, puppets, a young hero, and a magical castle. This "Wizard Castle" museum-quality canvas print (22"W x18"W) is a dramatic setting that (former Disney artist) Glenn Schmitz created as a beautiful Water-Color rendering. Glenn honed his skills during his work at Disney, as you can see in the style of this piece. Notice that the lighting on the front of the Castle comes from a torch being carried across the draw-bridge. You can only see the tip of the flame about halfway across the bridge, but, the illumination from it bounces off the front door and the inside of the entry arch to the right of the Castle. A clever way to dramatize the beginning of our hero's entrance into the Wizard's lair!
This beautiful, Numbered Edition, Gallery Wrapped, Canvas Print represents our dedication to the true color and vibrance that Glenn intended. It's not "storyboard" art. It has a much higher degree of finish. This 22"wide x 18" tall rendering was intended to be a feature piece in the presentation of this new creative concept proposal. It's never been released to the public. That's why this is a wonderful opportunity to amaze your friends and family with the story of how rare and special the Wizard Castle piece is!
There's a second incredible piece of water-color art that is the companion piece in this story's presentation. (See collection listing) It's an energetic rendition of our Hero in the climatic Wizard Battle. I have not yet found the description of the full story. I hope I will find it soon. This looks like a really fun show.
Either as a stand-alone piece or side by side with Wizard Battle-Concept Art, this is an excellent addition to a magical Gallery! Those of you that know the method will enjoy the way they represented the secret to operating the little Princess Puppet.

Rebo Art by Glenn Schmitz, Numbered Edition Canvas Print from The Magic Land of Allakazam, Episode 37, Rebo's Balloon Shop, 1961
This beautiful large caricature of Rebo the Clown is very special. It was originally created on a large piece of paper, using chalk, by The Magic Land of Allakazam's Glenn Schmitz (a former Disney artist). Glenn's favorite medium was chalk on paper. An interesting side-note is that, apparently, his fingers were cracked from the excessive use of chalk for his renderings. This particular piece was made as a set piece for Episode #37 of The Magic Land of Allakazam. It hung in Rebo's Balloon Shop alongside the equally large and spectacular partner piece of Basil the Baffling Bunny. (See collection listing).
Either as a stand-alone piece or side by side with Basil's caricature, since the original design was for the set, this particular sketch of Rebo is a great way to bring a little Magic from Allakazam into your home! Not surprisingly, it is a favorite of the Wilson Family. Nani even allowed Greg to hang the original in his bedroom at the Wilson residence for many years. And now you can have your own Allakazam Archives Canvas Gallery Wrap that may last much longer than the original!
