Preston, The Hypnotist sure has a good look!  These days he sets the standard for the elegant magician of that time.  If anyone out there knows more about Preston, please let us know.  Looks like he has an interesting history, and apparently, he had a TV show.

I'll leave the research on this up to you all, the Allaka-Fans.  Because you are the real secret behind the success of the Allakazam Archives.  Thank you in advance for your contributions.

Also, please do not republish, link to, or share this particular content outside of our Allakazam Archive community and site.  Let's respect the authors and their families in the same way we would appreciate being respected ourselves.  And in light of that, we will remove your own personal letter if you so request.  These postings and comments are monitored and we will do our best to maintain a fun, family friendly site for all to enjoy!

Osborne, Paul – Magic 3-22-62

If you see this message then please

The signs were there from the beginning that Paul Osborne would become a real magician.  And his art became a well known feature in Genii Magazine for many years.  I spoke with Paul a few weeks before his untimely passing, and he was telling me about his memories of Mark Wilson performing at his Birthday Party when he was a little boy.  Apparently Mark was quite an influence on young Paul, as we can see by his prolific career performing and inventing magic.  Paul is missed, and I wish he could see that we found his early letter and art.

If you have any stories to add about Paul, please submit them below in the comments box.  We will share them with the rest of the Allaka-Fans.  Any way that you can help, with research, time, or other contributions, we welcome your thoughtfulness.  Finding hidden treasures like this letter are wonderful discoveries.  But maintaining the collection, organizing it, digitizing, and taking care of Mr. Landlord, are all big responsibilities.  So, in advance,  I want to thank you for being an Allaka-Fan, spreading the word about this project, and telling us your magic story... we need all of you, Allaka-Fans!

Fred and Vida Haenchen were Haenchen Magic, the builders of some very nice magical equipment.  I remember Mom and Dad telling me how difficult it was to save up the big money needed to buy their first Illusion, the Haenchen Doll House!  It cost a whopping $100!!!  Wow!

Check out Episode #1 of Allakazam, the premiere show on Oct. 1st 1960 to see the illusion.

There's plenty more to come, and a lot more stories to tell.  But this note was important to share.  Hope you like it.

Furst, Arnold – Magic 1-16-61

Arnold Furst became a good friend of the family in the years to come.  I remember seeing him many times at the Magic Castle when I could go as a kid, for brunch or the swap meets.  It's fun to see how kind Mr. Furst was from the very first letter.  He had quite a career in Magic, and if anyone would like to help contribute details about him, it would be wonderful for the rest of our Allaka-Fans.

Part of the importance of this project is to preserve the analog history of magic from the 50's to the Milinum.  It's a period of time that might be lost to future generations if we dont record it now.  I really appreciate all the helpful contributions of all types that all  of you, our friends, near and far, are doing to keep this project alive.

There's so much more to explore, and discover.  Keep your eyes on this site and the newsletters for each new "find!"

Olmstead, R. P. – Kellogg 12-28-60

This is a really cool find!  A "Thank You" letter for Mark and Nani's gift of the TeleMatic to the VP of Kellogg's.  What is a TeleMatic?  It is a phonenumber mechanical index for a fancy desktop.  I'll post a photo of it as soon as I can find one in the collection.

Did you notice the date of the letter?  December 28th.  That means that the boss and staff were working between Christmas and New Years.  No vacation.  That was a different era of executives back in the 60's.

I just found another letter that has Mr. Olmstead's first name, "Ralph".  Slowly, step by step we will put this giant puzzle back together.  Ralph P. Olmstead, VP of The Kellogg Company, 1960.  (Notice that they do not use the 's in the corporate name on the letterhead.  In the series the graphics and voiceover anouncer say, "Kellogg's" with the 's.)

Be sure to read the other letter from the Kellogg's Assistant to the Advertising Manager, A.J. Finley.  It's also from the same date, but has some interesting content.  Personally, I like the last thing it says... but I'll let you discover it yourself.

If you want to transcribe this letter for us, please do so in the comments section below.  And if you want to help us in some other way, please visit the Treasure Store, or write to us.  We here at the Allakazam Archives are all volunteers and appreciate anything contributions our Allaka-Fans can make to help keep this project going.

I'm so happy you are reading the Fan Mail!  Is this letter written by you or someone you know?

This is perhaps one of my favorite sections of the Archives, to explore and share. I hope you will also enjoy reading this and the other letters collected from fans during the airing of The Magic Land of Allakazam.  This particular section is for the original fans of the show.  Other sections contain letters from magicians and organizations, though there is cross over as many young viewers/fans became professional magicians!  Are you one?

One of the goals of the Allakazam Archives is to transcribe these letters, and make them searchable documents.  As a volunteer based Archive, I'm asking you, clearly a fan yourself, to have fun... Please pick a letter that has not been transcribed, and type the contents of the letter (seen as a photographic scan here) in the "Comment" section.  The "Comment" section is right below what you are reading now.  You may not see your "comment" right away, as we do moderate all postings on the site to prevent spam and inappropriate material.  That way, eventually, everything will be searchable, and preserved for generations to come to enjoy.

The other goal is to find out who these wonderful people are now, and if they continued to have an interest in magic, or if their lives followed another path.  It's amazing where some of these wonderful fans have gone and what they have done in the 50+ years since they originally wrote these charming notes.

If you have your own story, not related to this post, please tell us about it, but we ask for your help by sharing your personal experiences in the "My Allaka-Story" section of the site.  You can navigate to it using the menu above.

However, if you wrote this one, or if you want to do some research for us about the author, please make notes about your findings below, in the "Comment" section.  As a team of Allaka-Fans I bet we can discover some very fun stories.  I know from the few that I have personally looked into that there is some wonderful stories out there.  One fan from the 60's has grown up to become the World's foremost authorithy on Jewish Biblical Coins.   Who knows what else is waiting to be discovered?

Please be kind, and let's not pry into anyone's life too much, nor contact them inappropriately.  That's not the spirit of investigation about which The Allakazam Archives supports.  The research is just a fun and curious activity, please.  This is a place for good news.

Also, please do not republish, link to, or share this content outside of our Allakazam Archive community and site.  Let's respect the authors and their families in the same way we would appreciate being respected ourselves.  And in light of that, we will remove your own personal letter if you so request.  These postings and comments are monitored and we will do our best to maintain a fun, family friendly site for all to enjoy!
